It’s because we’re awesome

The International Court of Justice has been moving toward its advisory opinion on drones today, with an exhaustive draft document currently running to some 10 pages. The rival dissenting opinion discussed in yesterday’s edition gained little traction, but the committee is forging on for its final ruling. At time of writing, the court was considering exceptions to the legal prohibition on the use of force, analyzing whether these exceptions apply to the lethal counterterrorism operations of the United States, to understand whether the US has any kind of legal responsibility.

At this rate, the ICJ could have an opinion ready by the end of this afternoon, although the complexity of the topic could warrant the debate continuing until tomorrow morning. Judge Laura was unavailable for comment, but would probably have said:’It’s because we’re awesome.”

judge Tonelli was more to the point.:’The judges are really working hard.’ JH
